Nissan USA has hiked the price for its 2009 GT-R supercar, increasing the MSRP to $76,480 for the base model and $79,090 for the GT-R Premium. Originally priced at $69,850, the change reflects an increase of 10% or $7,000. This is due to the rising cost of raw materials.
The GT-R's optional iPod converter also jumped from $360 to $400. All other equipment prices remain the same. Since pricing on GT-R was announced approximately a year ago, the cost of raw materials has increased exponentially, negatively impacting the cost to manufacture the car.
Equipped with a 3.8 litre, twin-turbo V6 engine, the GT-R is rated at 480bhp and 430 pound-feet of torque. On sale in the United States since early July, 631 units of the 2009 GT-R have already been sold, and the remainder of the 1,700-unit allocation is likely spoken for through dealer pre-orders.
